{"id":89,"date":"2013-04-13T11:56:55","date_gmt":"2013-04-13T11:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/?p=89"},"modified":"2013-04-15T17:26:41","modified_gmt":"2013-04-15T17:26:41","slug":"cleaning-and-maintaining-a-mountain-bike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/cleaning-and-maintaining-a-mountain-bike\/","title":{"rendered":"Cleaning and maintaining a mountain bike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gibbs Brand team were invited to Newdales Cycles\u00a0in Saffron Walden <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newdales.co.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.newdales.co.uk<\/a>, to watch a mountain bike being stripped, cleaned and serviced using Gibbs Brand.<\/p>\n<p>As Liam (Newdale\u2019s proprietor) stripped the bike\u00a0he was able to point out the key maintenance areas on a bike:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">The chain was removed and cleaned with brake cleaner, it was then dried and Gibbs Brand was applied as shown in the pic. Because of its non-sticky nature, using Gibbs to lubricate the chain means that it stays clean and free from dirt that would normally cause wear.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/STUF-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"STUF 1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/STUF-1-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">The gear block was also stripped-out, cleaned and lubricated in the same way. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">The front wheel was removed and Gibbs was applied to the quick release spindle and the magnesium fork ends where the paint tends to wear away and corrosion can take hold. Liam showed us a spindle that hadn\u2019t been protected with Gibbs see pic.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"font-size: 1rem; line-height: 1.714285714;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/STUF-052.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"STUF 052\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/STUF-052-300x175.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Gibbs was sprayed into the brake and gear cables and due to its capillary action it quickly travels the length of the cable.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 24px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/STUF-053.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"STUF 053\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gibbsbrand.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/STUF-053-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Finally, Gibbs was applied to the frame with a cloth. (The only item that should not be treated is the brake discs for obvious reasons!) Liam has found that bikes cleaned with Gibbs stay cleaner for longer, due to the way it leaves an invisible, protective dirt-rejecting coating.
